About Us

As a new mum I realised the importance of taking time out for myself, now more than ever. I needed something indulgent, cost effective and less time consuming, which to me was a bath at the end of the day with a candle flickering away.

Being eco-friendly has always been important to me. Even as a child I would rummage through the bin, fish out anything that had been misplaced and put it in the recycle box. But now with a new baby, I wanted to make sure I was being as responsible as I could be (within the limits of my exhaustion) even down to the types of candles I was burning.

Fast forward nearly 18 months, when sleep deprivation had very nearly become a distant memory and a series of events in the world left me back at home, I decided to create my own candles. Hicks Candles was born.

I wanted to make sure that everything I use is eco-friendly, not just the ingredients but the suppliers too. So after a lot of research I am proud to say that the candles are made from soy wax, the wicks are cotton, and all packaging down even down to the tape is plastic free and can be recycled.

My wonderful Grandma Doreen, lovingly known as Mummum always encouraged us to be creative, whether it was growing tomatoes in the garden cooking a soup, baking a cake, sewing, knitting & drawing. Every Saturday we were creating something with our hands in her kitchen.

In 2015 she was diagnosed with dementia, in 2017 she moved to a nursing home. When she moved I acquired many of her pots, pans and utensils that we'd used over the years.

When I started playing around and creating candles, it was her pots, pans and utensils that I used but this time in my kitchen. Mummum's maiden name was Hicks and I will be donating 10% of every sale to Dementia UK.

I hope you find the candles allow you to have a little escape from the hectic lives we all lead. Each candle is hand poured in small batches, cured for 10 days and made with a whole lotta love for those who need to take a second and unwind.

Every purchase means we can help battle this horrendous disease together so from the very bottom of mine and my family’s heart, thank you!
